Octapharma To Build $1.5 Billion Critical Care Manufacturing Facility In South Carolina


Octapharma plans to invest $1.5 billion in its first U.S.-based manufacturing and production facility, creating approximately 1,500 full-time jobs in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

The 50-acre campus will be developed at Palmetto Research Park and is expected to become one of the largest private biomedical investments in South Carolina’s history.

The facility will produce plasma-derived therapies from Octapharma’s portfolio, establishing domestic manufacturing capabilities for medicines currently supported by the company’s international production network.

Octapharma also plans to manufacture bleeding management and trauma care products used for national security and emergency preparedness purposes.

The project is intended to reduce dependence on overseas pharmaceutical supply chains while bringing production closer to the plasma donated in the United States and the American patients who rely on the company’s treatments.

Octapharma selected Rock Hill following a planning and zoning process conducted with Rock Hill and York County officials and in coordination with local, state and federal leaders.

The company cited South Carolina’s advanced manufacturing infrastructure, logistics network, access to deep-water ports and growing biomedical workforce as factors supporting the location decision.

Octapharma expects demand for its existing therapies and future products to increase, requiring the company to expand its manufacturing capacity.

Construction and groundbreaking details will be announced at a later date.

Headquartered in Lachen, Switzerland, Octapharma develops and manufactures human protein therapies derived from human plasma and cell lines. The company has more than 11,000 employees and serves patients in 117 countries across immunotherapy, hematology and critical care.

Octapharma currently operates five European manufacturing facilities, seven research and development sites and more than 200 plasma donation centers across the United States and Europe.

Ukraine plans to build a drone manufacturing plant in the United States.


Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that his country intends to establish a drone manufacturing plant in the United States, a move aimed at strengthening defense cooperation between Kyiv and Washington and increasing production capacity to meet the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Zelenskyy explained that the project is part of a broader strategy to develop Ukraine’s military industries in partnership with its allies, noting that drones have become a crucial element in modern military operations, especially given the ongoing conflict with Russia.

He added that establishing the plant will accelerate the production of advanced military technologies and facilitate the exchange of expertise with American companies, thereby enhancing Ukraine’s ability to address battlefield challenges and develop defensive and offensive systems using drones.

The announcement comes as the United States continues to provide military and logistical support to Ukraine, amid efforts to strengthen defense industry cooperation between the two countries, ensuring a sustained supply of necessary military equipment in the coming phase.

Observers believe the project reflects the growing strategic partnership between Kyiv and Washington and underscores the increasing importance of drones in modern conflicts, particularly as the Russian-Ukrainian war continues and enters a phase heavily reliant on advanced military technology.

Trump says tariffs pushed Korean, Japanese and German automakers to build U.S. plants


The U.S. president said tariffs pushed Korean, Japanese and German automakers to expand American production as he renewed his manufacturing agenda.

U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated Monday that his tariff policy has driven Korean, Japanese and German automakers to build their factories in the United States, as his administration has been using duties to restore American manufacturing.

Trump made the remarks during a White House event celebrating the launch of “Trump Accounts,” new investment accounts for children.

“We’ve never built as many automobile plants. They are all over, and they are coming from all over the world. You know why? Because they don’t want to pay tariffs. If they build their cars here, they pay no tariffs,” he said.

“So Japan, instead of making them in Japan […] or South Korea […] instead of making them in Germany […] They are all building plants here now.”

Since his return to the White House last year, Trump has been leveraging tariffs as a key policy tool to revitalize the United States’ manufacturing, increase foreign investment and reduce trade deficits.

Amid Trump’s tariff pressure, Korean conglomerate Hyundai Motor Group announced last year that it would invest $26 billion in the United States through 2028.

On Iran, Trump said that the United States will either make a deal with the Islamic Republic or “finish the job,” stressing that the United States “will win one way or the other.”

“It won’t be tough to finish the job. I would rather make a deal because I don’t want to affect 91 million people,” he said. “We can knock down their bridges in one hour. We can knock out their energy supply.”

Commenting on the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump said that both Moscow and Kyiv want to end the war. He also voiced optimism, saying, “I think we are getting much closer [to ending the war] than people realize.”

“I think [Putin] does feel pressure. He wants to end it and Ukraine wants to end it, and we are in talks, and we will see if we can get it ended.”

Trump plans to have bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the margins of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit set to take place in Ankara, Turkey, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

U.S. and allies move to build missiles and drones closer to Asia’s flashpoints



A U.S.-led defense manufacturing partnership agreed ⁠to launch a new missile motor production program with Japan, push forward a drone cooperation effort across Asia and explore building a new ammunition production line in the Philippines, the Pentagon ​said on Friday.

The Partnership for Indo-Pacific Industrial Resilience, known ‌as PIPIR, ‌is a group of nations working ​together to build up their weapons and defense manufacturing capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. The United States set it ⁠up in May 2024 to reduce supply chain risks and help ⁠allies produce and maintain military equipment closer to where it might be needed.

The Pentagon published a ​joint statement following ⁠a virtual meeting on Wednesday, where the group welcomed two new members — Thailand and the ⁠United Kingdom — bringing ​its total membership to 16 countries spanning ​both the Indo-Pacific and Europe.

The group said ​it had ‌agreed to set up a new program to produce solid rocket motors — the propulsion systems used in many guided weapons — with Japan taking the lead. The ‌move is seen as a way to boost production capacity outside the United States for a key weapons component.

On drones, members agreed on a series of steps to develop common ​standards ​and shared supply chains for small military drones ​across the region, including work on batteries and small motors ⁠that power them. The group also agreed to explore building drones together across a range of military uses.

On ammunition, members said they would look into ​the Philippines hosting a new facility to load, assemble, and package 30mm cannon rounds — a type of ammunition widely used by military aircraft and ground vehicles.
